A cottage/cabin living room is the best way to describe the atmosphere of Steamie. Located on Argyle Street in Glasgow City this little shop is a home away from home.
A rather strange, but welcoming layout in which the counter is up against the wall eliminating any barriers between customer and barista creates the comfy vibe of Steamie.
Service:
The service was great, the girls were very friendly and very relaxed one could imagine them to be a friend who offered to make you a cup of coffee. Per usual I ordered a pour over of their batch of Steampunk beans. Unfortunately, it was a mild temperature and their ratio of water was too high for the brew creating a rather mild flavor drink.
They were more than willing to provide me with something else so I chose a cortado with soy milk, which was pleasant.
Product:
Overall, everything was a bit disappointing besides the atmosphere. The second drink I received was decent, but would not encourage a second visit. They do boast a wide range of hot chocolates, which tempted my friend who chose a dark chocolate drink. Unfortunately, the method of serving provided my friend with over 16 ounces of hot chocolate at a luke warm temperature that was disappointing.
We tried one carrot cake, that was large and delicious appearing, but was rather dry and too sweet.
Overall Rating: 5.5
Pros: The service was pleasant and the atmosphere is deliciously comforting. Despite the disappointing coffee I enjoyed a good few hours of reading and writing in Steamie.
Cons:
The product served was underwhelming. If you don't like really hot drinks this would be the shop for you.
Good Luck!
